Physics of Falling Textbooks

Walking around campus on Saturday, I noticed a textbook outside of Curtis and later found out it was dropped from the 4th floor the night before. This made me wonder if someone were to be hit with the textbook before it hit the ground, if it would seriously injure them. I am assuming the average textbook weighs 2.7 pounds and the fourth floor is about 43 feet high.

In conclusion, the textbook could have knocked someone out since it doesn’t actually require that much force if hit right on the head. Wear a helmet when walking near Curtis!
